How I Turn My Slides Into Narrated YouTube Videos With Google Vids
My slides already do most of the teaching. Every lesson I build has a deck, and every deck took real thought: the pictures, the order, one idea per slide. For a long time those slides only lived in my classroom. Now any deck can become a narrated video that students can watch anytime, and making one is one of the easiest things I do.
The tool. Google Vids is Google's video maker, and it has Gemini, Google's AI assistant, built right in. I import my PowerPoint slides, and Gemini writes narration for them and adds background music. What comes out is a finished video built from slides I already made.
Step 1: Import the slides. I bring my PowerPoint into Google Vids. The slides come in as the video's scenes, in the same order I teach them.
Step 2: Let Gemini add the voice and music. Gemini creates narration that walks through each slide, then lays background music underneath. The deck I made for class now explains itself.
Step 3: Download the MP4. Vids exports the finished video as an MP4, the standard video file that plays everywhere.
Step 4: Upload it to YouTube. I post the video to my YouTube channel. From there it's one link I can put on a class page, on a slide, or in a message to a family.
Why it works. Students who were absent get the lesson in the same order and with the same visuals as everyone else. Students who want a second pass can replay one slide instead of hunting through notes. A review video before a quiz is ready the moment the deck is. None of this replaces the teaching. The slides, the pictures, and my decisions about what matters are still the starting point. The video just gives them a longer life.
Where an AI agent comes in. Every step here is a click in a browser: import, generate, download, upload. That's exactly the kind of routine an AI agent like Grok Bot can run on its own. I hand it a finished deck, and it walks the slides through Vids, saves the MP4, and posts it to YouTube while I work on the next lesson. I'm teaching my agent the exact steps now, and I'll share how that goes in an upcoming post.
Try it with one deck this week. Pick a lesson you already teach well, import the slides into Google Vids, and let Gemini build the narration. Then send the link to a student who missed class and see how it lands.
And if you want something to pair with your videos, every game I've built is free to play on the games page. Try them yourself before you use them in class.
